Two
pegylated interferon alfa (PEG-IFN a) treatments are currently commercially
available for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C (HCV):
PEG-IFN
a-2b (PegIntron)
and
PEG IFN
a-2a (Pegasys).
Both are formed by pegylation, the attachment of a large polyethylene glycol
(PEG) molecule to the IFN a core protein. However, the PEG molecules of the
two PEG-IFNs differ in size and location.
